Choose your email provider. We’ll walk you through the settings, passwords and final checks.

A FEW THINGS FIRST

One mailbox. Its own connection.

These instructions add a mailbox to the macOS app. Signing in to your NodeMail subscription account does not connect your email inbox.

  1. Open NodeMail Settings → Mail Accounts and add an account. Enter the complete email address. Recognized domains fill server settings automatically; otherwise select a provider or Custom / Other.
  2. Choose the mailbox’s Connection before browser setup: Direct, Clash Node or Manual SOCKS5. Add proxy profiles first if you need them. Keep the intended route selected while authorizing and saving.
  3. For Gmail or Microsoft, use the dedicated button in the account form to open the built-in fingerprint browser. First launch may install the browser runtime. Finish the provider’s verification, return to the form and save.
  4. For other providers, prepare the required app password or authorization code first; their new-account forms do not yet offer dedicated built-in setup-browser buttons. Each guide explains what credential to use.
  5. After Save Account succeeds, confirm messages sync and test sending to your own address. You can rename the local mailbox alias by right-clicking its sidebar entry or clicking its alias in the folder column.

Microsoft OAuth · built-in browser

Outlook / Hotmail

Do not select password authentication for Outlook.com. Microsoft 365 work/school accounts depend on tenant approval, IMAP and SMTP AUTH policy; they may require different SMTP settings from the personal Outlook preset. Ask your administrator before using a custom domain.

Add this mailbox

  1. In Outlook.com webmail, open Settings → Mail → Forwarding and IMAP and allow IMAP access.
  2. Enter your Outlook, Hotmail, Live or MSN address. Keep Microsoft OAuth selected and choose your connection.
  3. Click “Sign in with Microsoft”. In the built-in fingerprint browser, enter the Microsoft code shown in NodeMail, then sign in and review the requested permissions.
  4. Return to NodeMail, wait for “Microsoft sign-in complete”, then click Save Account. If the code expires, start sign-in again.

Google app password

Gmail

This is app-password setup, not Google OAuth. A normal Google password will fail. App passwords may be unavailable with organization policies, Advanced Protection or security-key-only 2-Step Verification. Ask your administrator; the browser cannot override these restrictions. Changing your Google password revokes app passwords.

Add this mailbox

  1. Choose your connection first. Click “Set up Gmail in fingerprint browser” in the account form.
  2. Sign in to the matching Google account. If needed, use “Google security settings” to enable 2-Step Verification.
  3. Open App passwords, name the new password NodeMail and generate it. Select only the generated 16-character password in the browser.
  4. Return to the form and click “Import selected app password”, or enter it in App Password. Click Save Account to verify IMAP and SMTP.

Apple app-specific password

iCloud Mail

Use your iCloud mailbox address, not an unrelated Apple Account sign-in address. SMTP requires the full mailbox address. Resetting your main Apple Account password revokes app-specific passwords.

Add this mailbox

  1. Confirm iCloud Mail is activated and two-factor authentication is enabled for your Apple Account.
  2. Sign in at account.apple.com. Open Sign-In and Security → App-Specific Passwords, generate a password named NodeMail and retain it for the form.
  3. Enter your full iCloud Mail address in NodeMail, use the iCloud Mail preset and paste the generated password into App Password.
  4. Choose Direct, Clash Node or Manual SOCKS5 in Connection. Click Save Account, wait for verification, then check the inbox and send a test message to an address you control.

Yahoo app password

Yahoo Mail

A Yahoo web sign-in password is not the password for this setup. If password generation is unavailable, follow Yahoo account recovery/help before retrying; NodeMail cannot enable it. Yahoo Japan and migrated ISP mailboxes may use different settings.

  1. Sign in to Yahoo Account Security and find Generate app password / Generate and manage app passwords.
  2. Create a password for NodeMail. Enter your full Yahoo address in NodeMail and use the Yahoo Mail preset.
  3. Select Password / App Password and enter the generated app password for the mailbox.

AOL app password

AOL Mail

If AOL cannot generate an app password, resolve this with AOL first. Migrated Verizon mailboxes have separate outgoing-server instructions; do not assume the AOL preset matches them.

  2. Generate an app password for NodeMail. Enter your full @aol.com address and use the AOL Mail preset.
  3. Use Password / App Password and paste the generated password.

QQ authorization code

QQ Mail / Foxmail

Do not enter your QQ password or the SMS verification code. Use the authorization code generated after verification. The personal QQ preset does not describe Tencent business mail.

Add this mailbox

  1. Sign in to QQ webmail. In Settings, locate Account / Account and security and the POP3/IMAP/SMTP service settings.
  2. Enable IMAP/SMTP, complete the security verification and generate an authorization code. Menu labels vary between webmail versions.
  3. Enter the full QQ or Foxmail mailbox address in NodeMail. Use QQ Mail / Foxmail and enter the authorization code in App Password.
  4. Choose Direct, Clash Node or Manual SOCKS5 in Connection. Click Save Account, wait for verification, then check the inbox and send a test message to an address you control.

Credential allowed by your mailbox settings

Sohu Mail

The server table is the current NodeMail preset. A current public Sohu step-by-step authorization guide could not be verified, so follow your signed-in settings or Sohu support for credential requirements. Sohu enterprise mail is a separate service.

WHEN SOMETHING STOPS

Check the failing step.

Password rejected

Check the full address, credential type, IMAP permission and account plan. A webmail login or SMS code is not an app password. Generate a new credential if it expired or was revoked.

Browser does not open

Check Browser Runtime in Settings, allow its installation to finish and verify the selected proxy exists and works. Retry the provider button. Do not create duplicate mailbox accounts to retry.

Receives mail but cannot send

Check SMTP hostname, port, encryption and authenticated sending permission separately. 465 uses SSL/TLS; the listed 587 presets use STARTTLS. Organization administrators may disable SMTP AUTH.

Timeout or connection refused

Check the account’s connection and server region. Website access does not prove that your route allows IMAP/SMTP ports. Use the provider’s current regional server settings.
